Young Researcher - Laia Sitjà Roqueta - University of Barcelona

Laia received a Bachelor degree in Biology, Minor in Molecular, Cell and Systems Biology, from University of Barcelona (UB), Spain, in 2016. During her Bachelor’s degree internship in the Neural Development group in the Institut de Neurociències (UB), Barcelona, Spain, she gained experience on pathology and cell biology in the scope of her thesis ‘Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy: a gene expression assay’. In 2017, as a part of her Master degree in Translational Medicine program, she joined the Experimental 7T MRI unit in the Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), Barcelona, Spain. She received her Master’s degree in June 2018 with the thesis ‘Correlation between orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) and plaque quantification in a transgenic model of Alzheimer´s disease’. From November 2018 until December 2019, she worked as a research assistant at the Bioimaging Laboratory in the University of Antwerp, Belgium, where she gained experience on neurodegenerative diseases and animal work, participating in the on-going projects and attending national and international conferences. Laia will work on the neurostimulation and imaging of phytochrome activated networks.
